Welcome to my blog. Here you'll find posts about my home, my knitting projects, and my travels.

Furniture Find: Louis XV Style Chair

Maybe a few of you remember me sharing how much I loved this chair?

I really love the style even though I typically tend to shy away from more traditional designs. This particular piece is certainly influenced by French style - it really looks similar to some Louis XVI chair designs, with the rounded back.

I was out for a run yesterday night when I spotted my neighbor taking this beauty on the curb. I am so glad that they happened to be taking it out just as I passed - it caught my eye immediately, and I am not sure if it would have otherwise. I shall call it furniture fate!

Anyway, I picked up the chair and took it home - rest assured, I confirmed that they were, in fact, getting rid of it. Upon returning, Andy told me that only I would go out for a run and return with a piece of furniture, haha!

From my research, I think this chair is more in the vein of Louis XV style, as it has the squared back, but if you think differently, please let me know!

Louis XV Chair Style - A Detailed Palette

Since the fabric is certainly outdated and way too floral to ever fit into our current apartment setup (and to be honest, I don't think Andy is a fan), I am thinking about doing some re-upholstery, but I'm unsure about the process with the nailhead trim involved.

Sadly, I think I am going to have a bit of a challenge on my hands when it comes to fitting this piece seamlessly into my living room. Our current furniture would be classified as either modern or mid-century modern. But again, I could just NOT pass this up, and I am looking forward to the challenge.

So now I need your help! When it comes to selecting just what color/patterned fabric, what do you think would best work on a chair like this? I am leaning towards a light yellow, but part of me wants to choose a more modern pattern to juxtapose the traditional frame - thoughts?

Some fabric ideas... let me know which one is your favorite or if you come across one that works even better. Finding something that works well with a gray couch is essential.
